What is Wire?
Wire is a user-friendly communication platform that provides end-to-end encryption for data security. It offers various communication options like calls, chats, and sharing pictures, files, audio, and video messages. Additional privacy features include self-deleting messages, device fingerprints, and password-protected guest links. Wire also supports efficient collaboration, allowing private or group conversations, file sharing, and high-quality calls and video conferences. It supports up to 100 participants in a video call for paid plans and 10 participants for the free plan. Users can customize their experience, choosing their color, theme, and text size, and use features like sketches, audio messages, GIFs, and emojis. Wire can be used on up to 8 devices, each with separate encryption, and users can operate up to 3 Wire accounts on a single device without logging in and out.

Wire released its server code!
Many employees working on Wire have previously worked on Skype, and Skype's co-founder Janus Friis is backing the project. Wire appears to be trying to restore the privacy features that were removed from Skype when Microsoft acquired the company. Wire's instant messages are encrypted with Proteus (which is based on the Signal protocol.)
Key issues:
The developer has addressed many complaints in a constructive manner, but various problems remain — for example WIRE SERVERS PERMANENTLY RETAIN A LIST OF ALL CONTACTS EVER MADE (which could be abused or stolen by hackers.) Wire has the potential to be a good product, but Signal is currently regarded as superior by security experts, and decentralized systems like Tox or Ricochet with forward security might be preferred.
Another similar product in development: Matrix (protocol)

Software as a service is a mark of lazy engineers. This is evidenced by the labyrinthine and messily-documented installation procedure.
2 stars for appalling value and no value security.

Wire was sold to a US holding and updated their privacy policy without informing their users.
